James E. Fegley Commissioned Series Violin

James Fegley opened his violin shop at 400 West 37th Street in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1979 and made instruments there until his death in 2003. The shop bearing his name is still open today. In the American making tradition, that kind of continuity means something.

This violin is from Fegley's Commissioned Series — built somewhere in the mid to late 20th century. Spruce top, single-piece maple back and sides. It retains its original Fegley bridge, which is notable — bridges are among the first things to be replaced on older instruments, and this one is intact. Matching rosewood fittings throughout, gold E fine tuner, Evah Pirazzi strings. The condition is perfect.

The price reflects the instrument's origin, its condition, and the quality of what Fegley produced during his making years. If you'd like to know more about Fegley or want to play this instrument before deciding, we'd welcome that conversation.
